with a world like corrugated cardboard
how do we ever get through
break through
feel through this mesh wiring of existence,
where he was and she was,
never quite sure of what was being said,
striven for, loathed, where did it go?
The sunsets and dawns laden with life?
Where streets were once home to a gamboling man
who'd laugh and who'd love and freely exist?
You'd traded him in for a ravaging, rambling man
on the cusp of insanity, helplessly, interminably
gasping for air, asphyxiated, he dies down, his questions cease,
and you're left to live, yielding nothing but horror.
for what lies far beyond culture?
What was it? Once shown beneath the depth of time?
for what rings and sings true without
pinning you to a wall, writhing in pain,
with suffering sprawling throughout your bones
placed ever-so delicately,
let spasms sink beneath your skin
from and for a new point of indifference,
out of touch, free of place, where I'd make effort to
free it of it's caged sentience
this land is your land, your land is my land
I would have said that-
prior to some misanthropy
the world would have portrayed that message
had you left it alone, before you'd
ransacked and pillaged
before you'd raped and you'd murdered,
before the land was claimed,
claimed by you, seeing as you'd called upon it,
registered yourself as some pretentious savior,
a Jesus of our time, everything missing from your mind
save Hubris, save flaws and recounts, miscounts,
a discounted sense of intellect, fool's gold buried inches beneath your hair.
There was a time when things were given,
when things were bought with things needed elsewhere
before the rigor took hold
placed this ambivalence in my soul
a world built from boxes that'll never quite fit
due to bottles and trimmings and news we'd forget
or the incoherent boxer who'd slept with his goat..
what was once free never will be
again or again
a gain or a loss?
you squander or you hoard,
careful now, before you breed,
heed all existence at the head of your seed,
an utter disgrace
miscalculated advancements, so I say
so you disagree
